The IFC workshops were truly a different experience than the other workshops I’ve been to out here in LA. I think, as it’s linked to a charity, it attracted a really special kind of people, a really grounded, supportive and generous group of individuals still passionate about the Art and their industry. The classes had a really warm and personal atmosphere and the professionals who gave their time weren’t just there to make a quick buck for the evening, as one might often feel in some workshops out here, they gave up their evening in the name of art, in generously sharing their knowledge with the actors in the room, and it felt clear that they were actively looking for talent. As an attendee, it also felt good knowing that the money I gave didn’t just help me and my career, but was going towards giving others the opportunities I was given as a kid. I really respect the Life Through Art Foundation, for what they stand for and for all they do, it’s an honor to help in any way. Emily Dykes

I did a session of IFC on a whim. I met Jaime Ferrar from JFA there. We all did our scenes and he gave lots of feedback. I really liked him and followed up after the seminar. I took a meeting and met his whole office. I signed with him and have been thrilled ever since! Thanks. Kate Mines

The Industry for Charity event was an awesome experience! The idea that something we actors do all the time (go to workshops) could benefit others less fortunate is a win-win situation. I’d been to acting classes and workshops, but wasn’t quite sure what to expect at the IFC Commercial workshop. I’ll describe what happened at one of them. After being welcomed and greeted, we were introduced to a commercial agent who had donated time from his busy schedule to be with us. Not only was he was able to answer every question the other participants and I had about booking commercials, he collected our headshots and gave each picture an honest, personal assessment from an “insider’s” point of view. With clarity, he was able to help each of us see what our “niche” might be, and how to best market ourselves. Another highlight of the workshop was when he provided “copy” of different commercials for us to practice, and then “audition” for him. Not only was that was really fun, but his feedback on our cold readings was precise and informative. I guess I must have taken good direction, because a week after the workshop he called me and we made an appointment to discuss representaion. Soon after, he became MY agent! As the industry has slowed, commercial work really hasn’t, and I’ve auditioned regularly. Last month I booked a national for a major department store! I would encourage any actor who wants to help others while helping themselves to attend the Industry For Charity workshops!    Erinn Anova
